Wine Country Strong

Wine Country Strong

It's been a tough few weeks in wine country. Friends have lost homes, jobs and loved ones. While incredibly sad and stressful, one thing we have consistently seen is that our small wine country towns have come together to care for each other in ways we never knew possible. We have hugged neighbors we barely knew, we donated to people who were evacuated from their homes and we supported local businesses by getting back out there and buying local. Here are a few of our local favs to add to your list when you visit next.

NAPA

Drink/Eat: Compline
Newly opened hidden gem (and we do mean hidden, so put on your sleuthing coat and be ready to follow the row of lights). Opened by Master Sommelier Matt Stamp and Ryan Stetins, Compline will entice you to try a new varietal or unusual, small production find. The small bites, like duck fat fries and gougeres, are perfectly proportioned to share.

Shop: Wunder Boutique + Salon
It’s where the fun people shop. No really, you need a gift for your sister or a funny card to take to a wedding shower? Sweet, sassy and very hip, it’s our go-to when we need a gift or a to-me, love-me.

Taste: Stags Leap Wine Cellars
The fires got close, but the winery is fine and back at it…their beautiful modern tasting room is worth a re-visit if you haven’t seen it in a while. The winery made its name in the 1976 Judgment of Paris, and the quality has continued making it one of Napa’s finest.

SONOMA

Shop/Drink: Sonoma’s Best
You know why it’s called the BEST?? Because they have an awesome selection of rosé! Local, French, unusual, small production…they have it. There is also a selection of tasty cheese and local gifts to pick up as well. A perfect stop before your wine country picnic.

Eat: Girl and the Fig
The fresh local dishes are always perfection, especially this time of year, when you can guarantee many of them to include the seasonally ripe figs. Anne’s favorite reason to belly up to the bar, is the secret Pliny the Elder on tap. A treat any time of day!

Taste: Patz and Hall
Perfectly lovely Pinots…and THE place to pick up Sonoma Pinots for Thanksgiving. Relax on their patio and ease into the busy holiday season.
